|
This year I must at least get some shoreline foraging done. As I live some way from the sea I've been thinking how to look up a good area.
My first thoughts are for a clean beach, so http://www.blueflag.org is a reasonable start.
The BBC site has a useful list of UK blueflag beaches with some more details: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2960774.stm
Does anyone know of other useful info or tips to find clean shoreline foraging. |

I just usually get the standard 1:50000 OS maps and look for the "rocky outcrop" sysmbol, away from towns and take the dog for a walk. Along with salt, spade and bucket
First I use the site :
http://easytide.ukho.gov.uk/EasyTide/EasyTide/index.aspx
to check for low tide times, this is a really nice and easy to use site.
happy hunting |

What are you planning on looking for? Spring tides are the time to do it whatever really, and rocky beaches are more fun. |

If you get a big spring tide and you're in the right place you can get crustacea too. There's one 'beach' near us where people have been known to pick up decent sized lobsters. |

talking of seaweed, doe anyone know of a really good reference book, colour plates and good descriptions etc??
I have the book "seaweed" by Sonia Surey-Gent , which is good for decriptions and many uses of seaweed, but only black and white drawings |
