Why do you ask? I don't know anyone like that

Well, I'm network sniffing today.

Is that legal/socially acceptable?

I use BT broadband and their own Antivirus ( etrust) I have three computers sharing the line. I asked the very nice man at bt if I could install the AV on the other two macines but was told that they don't do a cheap add on and I should pay the same amount for each one - however, he said, if you try and download it on each machine NOW, I think you will be able to do it with the one licence, I could almost hear him winking at me over the phone, so I tried it and yes, it worked.

Bye the bye, one machine had been used for about three days without any av programme and when I installed this it found 6, yes SIX viruses on it and it is a new machine!!!!!

Surely we're all accessories after the fact or something now.

You'd think the love of a good woman would have kept him away from that kind of thing. Sob.

A CA product if memory servers me correctly. Use it in my current company. Very cheap and easy to manage over a large enviroment. Would be in the low end of my top 5

Sophos - no false triggers, small updates and still the best after 15 years being my no1
Kaspasky - Used by the OU
Panda - good total package as it comes with FW and SpyWare
McAffee - Good suite and easy to get hold of
CA - Easy to manage

Worth a mention

Norman - rock solid on Exchange servers (possibly not many of those here might just be me)
AVG - It's free
Trend - Hotmail has dumped McAffee for these guys, support used to be rubbish, but they may have improved.

I'm review most of the products for work and will post on two3five

Just logged into work as it happens and yes it is a CA product and comes with two engines, either VET or Inoculate. VET was a Ozzie product and well respected in the email world (well X400 but most normal people won't understand that) and Inoculate is CAs long running product.

mrutty, would you suggest the same choice for a single computer? My new laptop (November) with Windows XP Home edn. had a short trial of PCillin, which I am very unhappy with because of the constant pop ups every time it checks interfereing with writing, and its comming to an end now. Want something that catches viruses, be easy to install, and not too expensive. I've had no probelms with Norton (on ME) in the past, are the others better?

Penny for penny I'd go Panda as you get a firewall, AV, Spyware killers the lot. But yes all of the products are fine for the home users. One issue with Sophos is get them to supply to you as their min offering is a 5 user lience, but I'm having words with them still on that issue (seeing them in the month of the month)

Just seen Jonboy have issues with Norton - Not a big fan any more of their kit. It's been about five years since I've seen them product a really good robust product which is a shame as they were one of the best.

I've get a review copy of the new F-secure product in the post as we speak so I'll see if that changes my mind
