Why are they going to pull it out? I know a few years ago government policy encouraged people to pull them out but I thought that was changed? Could you find out if they could claim any grants to help look after it, is there anything the locals could do to try and make it profitable? |
Don't know if they are. It's next to my house, and we'd love to buy it from the local (deceased) farmer's estate. However, we know one or two others are interested, and potentially, they might want to put either polytunnels or houses on it. Houses will probably never get through, but the polytunnels would be horrible. So, I'd like to buy it and run the odd pig in it, and leave it as is. If I can't, I want to do whatever I can to ensure the very, very rare bats that live there aren't disturbed.
Can't really be profitable, and the grants are minimal (compared to polytunnel profits). |
