on the way back from the pub tonight i found around 8 giant puffballs on the grass by the pub and picked the largest but it was still small compared to the size they grow so it must have been only a day or 2 old and i found 5-6 young parasol mushrooms and a few field mushrooms. i always considered the season to be september / october rather than beginng of august. anyone else found the season to be early. - also found sloes,blackberies, days from ripe elderberrys.

We've just been out and visited a local field that was full of small (not tastey) puff balls, field mushrooms etc last year. No puff balls and only two mushrooms at the moment, so not much round here yet. I've not been foraging for enough years to know if this year is early or late.

I think it's about the right time...last year it was unbelievably early because of all the rain - I was picking Parasols and horse mushrooms from June onwards.

I briefly saw a splendid single parasol on a verge today while driving past.

Not a lot of shrooms here yet. A few horse mushrooms. Gives me time to process all the plums and blackberries I suppose
