Our runner ducks are now laying eggs and usually in the same place (suprisingly). The eggs are found covered in muck on most days and may have been on the floor for most of the night - are they safe to eat? I have heard of toxins moving through the shell. Any advice??

That's ducks for you! Just give the eggs a wipe: they should be fine. I've been eating muddy duck eggs for years and it's done me no harm!

One of our Muscovies has just come back into lay and the eggs are a bit mucky - quick wipe and they'll be fine ..... which is just as well as only one chook is laying and I had to BUY eggs last week

More bedding for the ducks just before you put them to bed. Ducks love to hide their eggs.
As has been said, give them a wipe and you should be alright but given a choice, I'd rather eat the egg that hadn't has a crap marinade.

If they are cooked they should be fine.
Make your mayonaise with clean eggs.

Thanks for the advice - I think as long as they've not been exposed to mud and muck for too long they'll be fine. Looking forward to eating my first runner egg then.

You know why they call the Runners don't you ? Its because their eggs are left in poop and thats what you might be doing.

My ducks haven't laid for a couple of months now. Can I give up all hope until the spring?

It depends on age and breed Di.
