Paracetamol tablets plus honey, lemon and hot water is pretty much the same as lemsip IMO - and tastes better. |

Check the ingredients (carefully) in all those branded products and buy the dramatically cheaper but identical generic ones instead. Making a sweet, soothing drink to take them with is part of the cure.
I have a thing about cough syrups anyway but I was waiting for prescription in Boots last week idly reading the cough syrup ingredients on two bottles produced by the same company. I think one was for itchy coughs and one for scratchy. The only difference in them was the name, the colour of the cardboard outer packaging and the price! The contents were identical (and equally useless).

Hope you get chance to rest and recover soon. |

Olbas oil or eucalyptus oil if you're bunged up. A few drops in hot water, towel over your head and breathe deeply (if you can).
I'm rubbing Tiger Balm into my painful temples and sinuses at the mo. It's largely psychological I'm sure but seems to help.
Surprisingly, the shop we love to hate, Tesco, sells (or did sell) Tiger Balm in lovely little hexagonal jars last year - you could have knocked me down with a feather when I spotted it.

Hot Elderberry cordial or vinegar with spices to taste. Elderberry jelly will also work!!
Blackberry is also good, blackcurrant not bad.
Cider vinegar and honey in hot water.
Get well soon!!
Also, no getting cold then warming up-puts the immune system under more stress- constant temperature required |

Twinings do a Lemon & Ginger tea which is lovely; add honey & a slice of fresh lemon for that extra special touch.
Or I used to make my own out of Rosehips, powdered liquorice, fresh ginger, lemon etc.
I've run out of dried rosehips & powdered liquorice otherwise I'd drink some for you now! |

place half a raw peeled onion in a bowl with the cut side up, sprinkle to cover with sugar, leave in the fridge overnight.
take one to two spoonsfuls 3 times or as needed of the syrupy juice works a treat |

Another vote for elderberry cordial. A few days off work would probably help too . |

Almost the same as The Grange - except I chop up onions and put honey on, leave for an hour or two then take the syrup a couple of teaspoons every hour. I don't usually refridgerate it - never thought of that! |

Many good and weird ideas there........
Elderberry would be my choice as an anti-viral with added fresh rosemary however, it sounds like you have a stubborn cold so i dont think that would work.
I would simply keep your vitimin C levels high and eat more concentrated high vitimin foods. plenty of fish, leafy green vegetables, bananas, grains and pulses.
OR DO WHAT I DO............TAKE DOUBLE DOSES OF NUROFEN AND PARACETAMOL WITH HONEY AND LEMON UNTIL ITS DEAD |

Thanks, everyone!
Hmm, think I'll leave the onions alone ... elderberry cordial sounds good, honey *always* gets my vote
It would help if the customers would put their hands over their mouths when they cough and use a tissue when they sneeze |

We seem to have come into the habit of agreeing lately
Eldreberry and blackcurrant, topped of with gin. Serve piping hot.
Suck losenges and go to bed early. Sleep is the best medication. |

I've got a cold that just won't go away - probably due to it being this side of Christmas and me working in retail
Anyhow, I've finished the stash of the OH's lemsips that I found lurking at the back of the cupboard but am balking at the price
Don't suppose anyone's got a good, reliable home remedy? (I don't drink so hot toddies aren't any use!) |
Try your local Pound Shop, ours has Lemsips and Beecham's Blackcurrant! |

It isn't cheap, but that 12 hour cold and flu stuff is great for keeping you functioning if you have to be. And the hottest curry you eat (smoke 'em out!)
Or whiskey. Lots and lots of whiskey (pickle 'em) you may still have a cold, but you won't care (although that might cost more than the lemsip, at least it tastes better!) |

Didn't someone have some super-hot chilli vodka on here the other day - if anything's going to burn out bugs it sounds like that will! |

Sounds like a sure-fire cure to me. You could probably flog it to people with swine flu! |
