irongate

it hasnt shown up in the wild but it or a similar malware would be a very nasty problem if it did establish itself in any of quite a lot of plant.

temp and/or pressure control by malware has some horrible possibilities that go far beyond putting out the lights or a Bhopal type chemical leak.

most safety critical systems are not web connected but simple social engineering such as the cd by the right car in the car park labelled "payroll 15/16 " or a company style flash drive in an off duty workers location (or pocket) has been known to bypass the firewalls in several examples both real and "training test".

Security systems are very often "never mind the quality, feel the width" less about being secure than giving the impression of having done something.
