New UK research is finally showing Neonicitinoid insecticides are killing our bees.
BBC news article.
This was also making the mainstream TV news on all channels a few days ago.
If you haven't already done so please write to your MP & ask them to support EDM 2664.
It's easy to do online & only takes a few minutes.
If you are a member of the BBKA please write to them & ask them to finally cut their ties with the pesticide industry completely & ally with other conservation bodies like bug life.
Even if you aren't a beekeeper these chemicals are probably also playing a major part in the decline of wild pollinators that have also had dramatic population decline in recent years.
Much of the food on our plates is dependent on these little miracles so please from the bottom of my heart react.

I wonder if the Welsh Beekeeping Organisation has links with Bayer. I know they have nowhere near as much money. They could be asked to disassociate themselves from this in any case. I will find out. |

From that list it seems that party affiliation plays a part.
One Conservative!
Not bad considering DC was touting before the election that theirs would be the greenest government we've had?
There are letters you can copy with relevant questions to ask the abstainers on the link I posted at the start.
Please folks hassle them, for the sake of the environment & the bees. |

I should take a leaf out of their book: if they can "flip" their "main home" to suit their convenience, why can't I do likewise when deciding which MP to write to? |

Do it. If you have a valid address, why not? If the electoral roll hasn't caught up if they check...so what? |

Do you think the party has actually taken the line?
It is surely more likely apathy or ignorance.
Or maybe someone should check if the party has had relevant donations. |

I'm already registered twice. I've been meaning to see if I can chalk up a couple more.
As far as I can tell, it is only illegal if you're dishonest, or vote twice. |

That's a complete lie.
In both studies (AFAIA) bees where fed syrup with concentrations of insecticide the same as found in the honey of colonies foraging over neonic treated crops.
Neither study showed bees navigation or communication where affected, although there is research elsewhere from Germany & the USA that indicate this.
The British study shows the laying ability of queens from colonies fed neonics is much reduced, & the French study shows bees fed neonics are more susceptible to Nosema, a common bee disease found in most hives that generally has little effect until other factors come into play.
Such as chemical contamination of food stores & stress through other mismanagement.
IMHO if they can't counter the argument with real facts it proves the point. |
