Look what Gareth made me this week! Its a skein winder made from salvaged wood- beech for the body, from a branch cut down by local highway people last year, yew for the arms, actually came out of a load of firewood!, and reclaimed ebony (ex furniture)for the little cross pieces. I think its a thing of beauty (shame the house isnt tidier in the background!) Its already made turning coned wool into nice skeins ready for the re-enactors market so much easier. |

Wicked! I want a skein winder as I've got a ball winder (came with the wheel) but nothing to hold the skein whilst it winds into a ball. |

We had this conversation last night, strangely enough, though he does work hard when the moment strikes, its quite hard to persuade him to do anything in the garden. His craft work is always excellent, but again, its when the moment strikes, if I could find a way to get him to make a bit more of it, he might be onto a good sideline- but I'd rather he enjoyed it, I certainly wouldn't want to force him to spend hours chained to the workshop and be miserable. We're trying to come up with a cunning plan that will let us buy somewhere with a bigger garden in about three years or so, so maybe I'll just have to be mean and kick him occasionally so he makes things we can sell |

I'd be thrilled to bits if my hubby made anything!! (other than a mess, of course!)
He drives a lorry all week, comes home on Friday night, works Saturday afternoon in the pub for me, then seems to spend all day Sunday riding or polishing his motorbike.
I've tried steering him upstairs with his polishing cloth, but it doesn't work!!!!
His favourite (and most used) saying is "It's no good asking me to do that!
This applies to housework, feeding animals, repairing anything, answering post, paying bills, book-keeping, well, just about everything, really.
My first hubby was an excellent handyman/craftsperson/diy-er - why, oh why, did I get rid of him? |
