Middlun's school have told her she needs Photoshop for art. IOt seems all very complex on Adobe website, monthly plans, clouds etc.
All I want is basic photoshop on my PC at home. What version do I need? |

You can't these days, they've turned it into a subscription model, just get an Adobe Photoshop subscription via Adobe Creative Cloud. |

It does but it's an old version. Have they specified which version she needs? The latest is Adobe Photoshop CC - the Creative Cloud version. |

iirc there is a school and student package deal for a reasonable price.
if it is just to go on a PC and for basic ( but really rather clever ) stuff and it isn’t about learning current state of the art digi media but is for image creation/manipulation etc CS2 is available as an out of licence freebie
the full creative suite would take quite a specialised course to get full use of it , at least a BA and probably about 5 yrs post grad at a guess.
i would ask what package the school thinks is required
i bought CS3 in full when it was about a year old, photoshop is awesome but i only use a tiny part of it when i need to do a dry lab job that is even better than a wet lab job to make a photo look nice or find the detail from a low resolution snap

I'll just mention Gimp, though I assume it is no use for the course.
It's pretty good for free software.

Last time I bought Photoshop Elements (version 14, I think), you had to search pretty hard on the Adobe website, but the downloadable, non-subscription versions of all their products were hidden away on there somewhere. I would hope that if they do stop producing the one-off purchase versions of their software that someone else will come along and fill the gap in the market - I for one don't use it often enough to justify a monthly subscription, and I suspect that there are many others in the same boat. |
