Apparently, a car is to be clamped in a carpark in Peckham and left with the engine continually running for a year, in the name of 'art'. It's expected that it will produce 4 tons of CO2 during this time, and is supposedly a protest at the amount of pollution cars generate.

So how exactly is adding another 4 tons of the stuff into the atmosphere supposed to help? And can you imagine if you're living near to that car park?

Some 'artist' planned to leave a tap running for a year to 'symbolise the wastage of modern society' Twaddle.
The gallery pulled the plug (pun intended) after a week or two when the local water board threatened to sue them over water wastage or some other such thing.

Surely you can do that from how much fuel gets used?

Although off the top of my head, I haven't got the numbers to do that calculation.

I know that the pollution figures are usually based on grammes co2 /kilometre. But as it's just idling I haven't a clue.

Be interesting to know what the total weight of fuel consumed would be.

Isn't deliberate wastage to protest against waste in the same category as 'fighting for peace' and the old T-shirt favourite 'screwing for virginity'...?

Excellent - as this car is supposed to be quite old, maybe they could get him under the emissions legislation?
