Walked up to the run yesterday afternoon to give the girls their afternoon corn to discover to my horror that Queenie has ripped the back of her comb off her head ( sorry you weren't eating were you?) at some time during the day, I was at home and heard nothing unusual. She seems completely unpeturbed, pecking and eating as normal. The other two are ignoring her and don't appear to have pecked her - she's Boss Hen anyways so I don't think they'd dare.
We've checked with our resident poultry supplier in the village who said do nothing and leave her to it, but I wonder how it will heal? Anyone ever seen this in a hen? I can't see what she's done it on, there are no sharp bits in the run or odd bits of wire for example - we've double checked it. Can't even see any blood on the ground to have a clue how it happened. Most odd!

Ours often fight a bit and can damage their combs. There's often blood everywhere and when I have clean 'em up there hardly a scratch on it. Now I just leave alone as once it's gone black and dried it seems fine, when you try and clean it even more blood appears.

One hen has also lost a claw trice which caused a fair bit of blood. Then I just washed the foot with salty water and it healed up fine.
