I haven't really watched it since he left.

It all fizzled out for me a few years ago, when it went from "hey let's grow wonky carrots and bodge an eel trap" to "my mate George is letting me shoot on his estate in return for catering the Christmas Ball". No judgement, in that he has to make a living, I don't begrudge him that. But it became irrelevant to me.

I started watching HFW with River Cottage Veg a while back and quite enjoyed the series. However all these celebrity chefs are trying to find a new angle to prolong their celebrity shelf life. A classic example of this would be Gordon Ramsey's new series about teaching cooking to prisoners in gaol.

Very true Baldy but with HFW I would happily sit and just watch a year at River Cottage. It doesn't have to have something new or loaded with bells and whistles. Surely just pressing the sustainable message would get new people watching but I know that's not good enough for the TV channels. Shame really.

It's a shame really that new programmes always seem to start off well. They appear to offer something fresh, or have an edge over everything else. Unfortunately the concept seems to get manipulated and messed with until it eventually becomes mindless pap. The same happens with music, the first couple of albums seem groundbreaking and revolutionary, then Producers and record labels decide to play it safe and aim for a broader market.
Whilst on my soapbox. another thing that really gets my goat is the condescending narration that they insist on putting on documentaries and other such programmes.

agree. and this is all because of numerous ad breaks... we used to be able to just ff through the ads, now we have to ff through the ads and the recap of action so far after the ads...

You'll love tonight's 'special' episode then, where HFW invites three 'celebs' to River Cottage...

Felicity Kendall is one of them. I was there when it was filmed.

So does that mean that Nick is really Philip Glenister?

I'm finding it a real struggle to watch without starting to drool Phil Glenister and HFW together - something I never thought I'd see in my life *swoon*

Followed by the post-ad review of the pre-ad section.

Rumour has it that due to instant access expectations with the internet, the younger generation have the attention span of knats.
