Hi, Is it possible to cut an apple tree down to the top of the trunk and it recover? Cheers. Marion

Yes but why? How old's the tree?

Has it just happened?

It'll probably not die but if it survives, may need the mass of shoots that will spring up sorting out. Not the best way to prune a tree

I assume you'd do the pollarding in winter? Is the tree valuable?

Sometimes things like cutting all the branches off a tree back to the trunk kind of . . um . . just happen when your back is turned

Then the cutter has some reassuring to do . . .

Not saying this is relevant, of course.

Gosh - we have lived in our current home for 20 years - never touched the apple trees which were well established when we arrived! What do we do?
