Has anybody got it? Used it? Want it? Got any thoughts on it?

My new phone has it and I'm wondering if I would like it.

Thanks.

It's near field communication. You have it on your mobile phone and use it to make payments with. Eradicates the need for plastic cards in your wallet.

I'm a little skeptical but curious as well.

I always want to know what happens when someone nicks your phone (or contactless card for that matter - they canbe scanned remotely did you know).

Does Rob R have this? I think he had some kind of mobile app thingy...?

I know with my phone, I can remotely wipe it from my web browser, if it ever got stolen.

I'd really have to weigh up the pro's and con's before I even consider setting it up.

No less secure than using a card, you can set a pin for purchases and in the event your phone is stolen/lost and used you can normally get the money back in the same way as unauthorised card payments.

Worth noting though that you may not even be able to use it based on which network you are on and who you bank with, there hasn't been a large scale role out yet in the UK. If memory serves me correctly, vodafone and orange have the capabilities with Visa, EE and O2 are planning to role out by the end of this year. My info may be out of date though, I looked into it a few months back. I think the maximum amount you can spend is £20 as well on those who do support it

Thanks Scott. I'm with EE. With only a £20 limit it's not going to set the world on fire. I assume that will change in the future though but if it is only £20 it makes you wonder how much confidence they have in the security of it.

The mobile phone payments world is very junior. Many companies are not trialling too heavily because they are waiting on updated finance inputs to regulation, capabilities etc.

That said nfc can be used for more than just payments, it can be used in place of a barcode / qr code and send the user to a mob website - used quite a bit in Netherlands with I think Starbucks, 'tap here and get a free coffee ' type of thing
