Did you pay about £239 or £299?

£239

At £239 you have bought the Nexus 7 that doesn't have LTE (4G).

Here is a bit of bumph for the one with LTE.

Flog it on ebay and buy one with the spec you want. Faffing with dongles will do your head in.

(Anyone's head. Not yours in particular).

It's brand new. Just take it back to the shop. If you asked for 3G, bang on about sale of goods, and fit for purpose, and misrep, and so on.

You're looking to spend more money. (But, don't go for a Nexus, it doesn't do what you want.)

Eta ah. Seemingly, the 4G version will work on most 3G networks, so you just need to spend the extra sixty notes, and then twenty quid a month for your data allowance.

If you can get the last model of Nexus 7 with HPSA+, then that is the 3G version.

For £13 per month you can have a Samsung Galaxy Ace phone + Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" from Carphone Warehouse. Its just wi-fi but there is so much free wi-fi around (cafes, hotels, pubs) that you won't miss the 3G.

I did this 18 months ago and the tab is great (the Kindle app on it is better than the actual Kindle). Sadly it was and is £17.50 per month.
