It looks fabulous Nick. Is it in your garden or just some random bit of woodland? Am I correct in thinking Brownbear died?

Thank you.

That’s a section of our back garden. Beyond is fields. But we have a lot of reasonable size trees in our hedgerows and our fields are long thin strips, dating both them and the hedgerows quite a long way back. Fields are also orchards in some places, so almost ‘very open wooodland’ wouldnt be incorrect.

I’m home tomorrow and once I’ve picked up 450 bales I’ll try and grab some pictures and make a plan.

an envelope plan might help but one with rough sizes would be ace

power side is easy, user friendly needs thought

i have been considering the lighting rig and have a few ideas and questions

are there about ten places to put a lamp or chain light?
what is the budget? my thought is a grand or so for the materials to do a good job at 12 v

scrapheap challenge could probably do it but it would be a nightmare to do and maintain

odd voltages can get pricey even if they can be more efficient, it is an equation of efficiency vs costs with kit and keep it simple for a lowish tech rig is probably best
easy to install(i assume you will put it in?) might be good

first thoughts on the lungs and heart are 12 v, decent size panel or twin panels
120ah leisure battery( with leds that should give a few nights from full charge even if there is no day in-between and it is easy hauled and charged if there is a pv issues or whatever)
12v panel(no v conversions needed which is very easy and saves lots of conversion losses of energy)
maybe 4 circuits(easy with a 4 gang consumer unit or even a bus board and switches) that gives 3 for mood/safety and one for a flood light for those moments you need one(find the contact lens is an ace game)

what will be the dark hours usage time?
that is a biggie

once we have had a chat i might up the battery/panel size

under deck to post wires(i need to consider what wires for all sorts of reasons, lv has many of the issues of mains or hv but not in the same ways, are rats an issue?

Ah. Now.

Not everyone was in the loop here. And SOMEONE has bought a whole load of solar lanterns, which, while not bright, has made her very happy...

So. For now, at least until she's lost the email receipt, and they break, the grand lighting project is on hold, I'm afraid...

do not be afraid of the step, a head torch, night vis or a blindman stick are all very effective

the wee solar+glow things are ok for side lighting a path, sometimes, if they work

not bad for a bait station either:twisted:

good lights are practical and awesome stage set
