Looks like an American site and definitely a bit pricey but they have some beautiful patterns, sigh...

Try and find a top pattern that fits the bill. The skirt bit is relatively simple to work out from first principles and add on?

Had a look from 40's through to 70's on Rusty Zipper and found nothing suitable either Sad

i could do with a couple of dress patterns.

i'm looking for sun dresses, short sleeve or sleaveless, that covers a size 14-16. and with a relatively tight bodice and loose skirt.

i'm only being specific, because that is what i want to make and i only want to take something that would be usedd by me not take other stuff as well that would be better off with a different home.

having decided that finding a sundress that will fit a 36F chest is impossible, i'm going to make one. A freind is going to teach me how to adapt patterns to fit
DawnMK

I will send them on to Nell then she can pass on any she dosent want if thats ok Smile Katieowl

ROFLMAO....why DO they cut ALL sizes for a totally flat chest??? It really gets my goat. DD and I have the same problem. Anything over a 14 needs extra material in the front, not just to be X" wider! I made Pippa a halter neck dress a few years back, but I can't remember if we had a pattern(?) or if I made it up...I don't remember seeing it in my recent forays into the sewing cupboard of doom.

I will be doing and article about resizing patterns and workshop at the skill share (if there are enough interested I shall organise a weekends workshop at Ginkotree's) DawnMK

Toggle I have these patterns that are new I would be happy to loan you one if you want to do a copy of the pattern to fit.

nel,

I'm not going to make it to the skill share, it's pilgrim's sister's wedding.

dawn: absolutely. I can't get my tits into size 18 dresses. not without them being forced into completely the wrong dhape. I thought that id I'd lost weight, then I could get some more girly clothes. but i can't. and i'm sulking.

if I could borrow the simplicity k4070 and the red polkadot sew couture, I would be eternally greatful. won't take long to sketch off a copy and return to you. pilgrim makes a great post boy.

then i can practice trying to make them fit.

For full bust adjustments, try joining The Sewing Forum. There's LOADS on there on FBA's, and lots of really lovely people who will help.

ALL commercial patterns (with the possible exception of the XL, XXL etc sizes) are cut for a B-cup. So any of us ladies with anything bigger than that needs to do a FBA.

However, as I know that my waist always needs cinching-in anyway, I usually make a toile to the largest size, to allow for my DD boobage, and then take it in as appropriate from there. I then cut according to my toile, not the commercial pattern.

Nell, Frankensteined patterns R us!! I nearly always do this, too. My wedding dress, when Chris and I got married, was VERY Frankensteined - so much so that I could leave the pattern envelopes lying around and he didn't have a clue what my dress would look like! Laughing Laughing Laughing

I've got a freind here who I can see occasionally (cause she is a carer for a seriouslky loopy daughter) who is a very good dressmaker. she has talked me through how to do this.

and i presume that is the b cup that would go with the chest size for a particular size. a b cup on a 38 band would be the same volume of boob as a dd cup on a 32. this is why i'm starting with a 16 or so and then ading boob and then taking in the waist. that means i need to take it up 3 not 5 cup sizes.

tell me if i'm right on the theory for this.
Vanessa

The theory is correct Cool toggle

awesome.

thanks hun.

The dress you want Nell is the exact same one Em wants for her prom unfortunately the Vivienne of Holloway dresses don't fit her shape so I'm going to have to do some sewing for her as well

I'll be having a look at that site too!
jamanda

Is Em in year 11? Exciting time for her at the moment! How's she doing? joanne

Yes she's upstairs revising Chemistry at the moment - shed doing exceptionally well and is predicted almost straight A/A*'s - I'm so very proud of both my kids considering what they've been through over the last couple of years

Her prom is the day before her 16th birthday - my baby has grown up!
jamanda

Aw. My little bunch of reprobates (my tutor group) are year 11 too, so I get to go to the prom this year. I've had most of them since year 7, so quite a thing to see them go. The next couple of days are going to be exciting - torch malarky tomorrow morning (except for the ones in the biology exam). Tuesday - they do their English exam in the morning, then have a barbecue and leaver's assembly in the afternoon - tissues will be needed! Nell Merionwen
