Aga Cleaner !

I just wonder if anyone has a recipe for a gumk cleaner for our range? I've tried scrubbing it with a brillo pad which is just removing what paint there is still on it!!! It just seems to get 'stuff' baked on Wink and after about a year I look at it and think YUK. Someone suggested Bicarb.....but haven't tried it yet. Anyone got a tried and tested recipe please?
Many thanks all.

It's not paint it's enamel, which means it will be damaged by acids. So avoid anything with citric acid or vinegar in it.

Bicarb works on enamel pans, but scours the surface slightly & leaves them slightly rough which means they are more prone to collecting grime next time.

Too late to say this, but the best thing is probably to wipe up spills as soon as they occur and never let them get baked on.

The best stuff I used, when the aga was turned off, comes from Lakeland Ltd. it is here

It is a non toxic gel, and I have not yet found an easier way of cleaning the cooker or the aga.

Whatever you put in your washing machine.

Dirty clothes?

If a pair of dirty pants don't clean it, nothing will.

Ahha - thanks Alison, I'll give that a go. The range is at least 25 years old although there isn't 25 years worth of grime on it Laughing , so its a seen better days, but would be good to just be able to make it look a little bit better Wink

I believe that Chez has the best cleaner on this forum...

We used to turn ours off and use paint stripper on it Mandy, it had been re-enamelled properly, so it was OK...works a treat. Big guns Smile

Other than that I am a big fan of Fairy 10X power spray....which is not cheap, but one of the people we were cleaning a couple of years ago had it in her arsenal for the holiday lets, and it's bloody marvellous. Used with one of those scrubbie metal pads, it's keeping on top of the rayburn here, and the glass on the oven door and the woodburner too!

I've not tried it (no longer have an Aga) but (when turned off) I was told WD40 worked quite well

Thanks Katie and all. I'll have to try a few of these methods when the thing is switched off in the summer. Its not food as the worst places are the lids Rolling Eyes , very odd. Actually WD40 is a worthy agent to try too, so will give that a go aswell.

As for the stuff you put in your washing machine Confused Confused Confused I thought you meant Fairy Non-Bio !!!!!! I was wondering how that would work Laughing

Fairy 10X is a kitchen cleaner...Wilkinsons sell it. It's in a green spray bottle, and it's bloody marvellous. Anyone who knows how cheap I am Wink will know I wouldn't buy a brand cleaner unless its was the business Razz

As a "newbie" to Rayburns, I've read this with interest ...

Just wanted to point out, it says on the Lakeland link, under the price "not to be used on agas"

I think they must have added that note, since I last bought any.
