For the techies then.
We run on big Dell R610 servers, that run various versions of "XenServer". XenServer lets us create loads of "virtual servers" that can be reconfigured to say have more memory or more CPU at the click of a button, and the virtual server can also be exported as a file and imported to another "real" server and started again. It is all wonderful stuff, but the XenServer we were on is a year and a half out of date and suffers from a horrible bug that eats disk space. So essential I have just exported downsizer from there and imported to the latest Dell R610 and given us some more CPU cores. Once all the virtual servers are off the old R610, it will get rebuilt with the latest greatest and hopefully less buggy XenServer 5.6fp. Luckily these days we are running 6 Dell R610 all with 2 top of the range CPUs and 48gb memory each, plus 3 older servers. So taking one server off the line is not too much of a big deal ![]() |
