How many people will a goose feed? We're trying to think about Xmas and we're going to have lots of people for lunch. Our neighbour has Geese so we were thinking of having one but don't know how many a goose would feed. Any ideas?

Last year we found that one goose (mediumsized) would feed two greedy people for two meals, leftovers, and a lot of goose grease, which was good for roasting tatties/veg.
(goose grease not much good for other purposes )

Depends on how long you keep it in the kitchen and make it cook
sorry - I'll just crawl off now shall I..........

The real answer is a lot less than you'd hope. A big goose gives 8-10 people a slice or two, leaving some left for cold, but then that's subsidised with a big turkey, or a bit of beef, for those who demand tradition, meat, and huge portions. Oh, that'll be me, then.
There's a lot of fat, and a lot of bones on any goose.

Umm... you're allowed roast spuds, mashed spuds, roast parsnips, glazed chestnuts, bread sauce, stuffing, sprouts (though it may be too late to start cooking them this year), carrots, little sausages with bacon round them. And you can stuff the goose neck too. Should feed at least four.

When I ordered my goose the other day, the butcher recommended 2 lbs per person. Don't expect much in the way of leftovers, apart from lots of lovely fat.
I'm going to serve it with quince sauce instead of apple this year as I have an abundance of quince in the freezer

We had a party of eight round for Christmas with a goose, and a as far as I remember, we didn't have an especially large one or anything. There was plently leftover for boxing day buffets too. We did have a full supporting cast of veg though, so perhaps no one had very much. Dinner was rather late, so I'm afraid I can't remember very well.

Oh, do tell
Goose fat makes a lovely soap for washing hair with.

From personal experience, a goose will feed two people for four days (Gooseaka anyone? ), and a very demanding cat will have the giblets and whatever else is left.

Thanks for the reminder
Wasn't it "Sprouts on Sunday" yesterday - the last Sunday in October?

We've 10 for Christmas Dinner this year plus 3 cats and hopefully an expectant dog so I was considering a Goose but it would have to be a very large one and I've still got a full jar of Goose Fat from the one we had last New Years Day
My brother is coming over from Belgium for Christmas and has requested Goose but I don't really know what to do - I don't have room to fit 2 in the oven - so if I do Goose what is another suitable meat to serve with it - Maybe a Turkey Crown ?
