Mushrooms on the allotment?

I noticed these on a neighbours allotment - any ideas what they might be?

Sorry, I didn't have a clue what to look for, I just took what I could on the camera phone and hadn't read the FAQ on mushroom ident before going to the allotment. Any guesses would be nice, I don't think I'll be eating them as they're not on my plot!

indeed...

I'm not _that_ stupid anyway = )

Even if you guys identified them with 99.9% I'd still be very wary! I just fancied knowing what they are and whether we were talking edible!

Errm... Roughly how big are they?

Bigger than a car by the looks of things.

Hi,

It is always so hard to tell from photos, whatever the quality. It looks like a fungus that grows on manure or plant material. Possibly a Panaeolus...

Yeah, I was going to say "Dung Round Head" or that family, I wouldn't eat it.
Don't quote me though, I only really know about the edible ones.

If it doesn't go all gooey, panaeolus (as the guys have said) is a good bet.

Woohoo my first hallucinogenic mushroom! Unfortunately the wind tends to blow off their allotment onto mine - I'm thinking of cultivating my own (hell, I've got the logs and the spore dowels, I was going to do it last night but have been writing the seed swap site...). Presumably since I'm going to be growing on wood rather than manure we won't get any contamination?
cab

Whether that one is hallucinogenic is doubtful. Maybe.

Spores from that will be all over your plot, in fact they'll be all over all of the local plots. Whether or not they'll grow will depend entirely on conditions, so don't fret over it. Yes, they may grow in amongst shrooms that you grow (not those on wood, obviously), but ultimately that doesn't matter, you'll still not be eating them.

Indeed - I wonder what my workplace DnA policy would make of them!

I think my Shiitake shrooms will be mushroom enough for me. At least now I know how to stay clear!
dpack

my id agrees ,lots on horse dung heaps round here
iirc contains a selection of alkaloids but no reputation for altering brain chemistry
dont eat them

How does one get experience at mushroom picking and finding? a few of my friends (a long way away) do a fair bit of mushroom foraging but I'm never in town when it happens. I'd like to go out with someone who knows what they're doing to learn! Any ideas?
