Are there any breeds that originate in or around Devon?
the only thing i've found mentioned so far are influences of Indian/Cornish game etc.
the Plymouth rock is a different Plymouth....

ETA And not only does she have dreaded Leghorns, but she has *white* ones. So thrrpt |
She's been telling me porkies then. And I'm very impressed with the thrrpt considering the state of your gums.

Those silver Sussex look fabulous, I've never seen any before.

I first came across them many many years ago on the first farm I worked on...have always like them since. Not that easy to come by.
Their colouring is the negative version of the Light Sussex, if that makes sense.

Aren't they *lovely* (the Silver Sussex, that is)
(And the Speckled, and at a pinch, the Other Sussexes... )

I've just had to go back to Bebos picture and try to get my head around that. I'm not sure that I have but they are still very attractive birds. The hens are negatives of LS but I don't think that the cock is.
I'll have to keep on going back and having another look.
PS. Has anyone ever seen any of the White Sussex that are listed as a colour?

Sorry it was the hens I was referring too. I know with the hens what is black on the Light is silver/white on the Silver i.e neck, wings.
I can't find the breed standard for the cock...Bebo?

The silver are nice but I prefer the speckled they are smashing, the gold ones (whatever their type name might be) are rather dashing too.

Yes. Saw a trio for sale last year at the smallholders show in Ardingly. Same shape as the other Sussex breeds but pure white feathers. You can get hold of them, but there aren't that many about. Probably because the Lights are so popular and are quite similar.
The Silver colouring is like a reverse of the Lights, but they also have silver lacing on a lot of the body feathers as well. My cockerel wouldn't be the best example for showing, I reckon he has a bit too much white on him.

I *heart* the speckled. Dennis, our first lovely cockerel was one - called after Dennis Healey because of his eyebrows.
I *do* have six white leghorns. But only because they lay like made. They DO have a personality, but I never get to see it because they are always running away from me squawking.

Light;
Red;
