- 8 oz. sloes with stones removed
- 1 lb. self raising flour
- 8 oz butter
- 8 oz sugar
- 3 eggs
- 2 teaspoons bicarb.
- milk to mix
- Rub bicarb. flour and butter together.
- Mix in sugar.
- Add eggs and milk and beat until a smooth, dropping consistency is reached.
- Stir in sloes.
- Divide mixture between two greased loaf tins and bake at 180C for about an hour - until a knife pushed into the centre comes out clean.
The basic recipe can be modified by adding mixed-spice, brandy, other fruit etc.
