Don't use anything that can expand when damp - use Knauf aquapanel or a similar rigid, non-hygroscopic wallboard. I had to do a job recently where someone had made access panels in a bathroom out of MDF and they'd expanded and warped beyond belief, flinging tiles across the room. They all had to be remade and retiled (and finding new tiles to match the existing ones was a total 'mare). | ||||||||

Or how about pre-made access panels - like a small plastic loft hatch - like this -
http://www.screwfix.com/p/access-panel-200-x-150mm/20924?cm_mmc=Google-_-Product%20Listing%20Ads-_-Sales%20Tracking-_-sales%20tracking%20url&gclid=CMOykcLS27ECFYYNfAodilgAfw Can't vouch for quality of screwfix panels as I've not bought theirs - just the first to come up in search. Yeh not as nice as a well done tiled hatch, but much easier to fit and looks better than a badly done tiled hatch. |
