Nice. We have had a greater spotted woodpecker and two long tailed tits on our bird feeder recently. Didn't know either of them ate peanuts, but they were there.

Something else odd I saw at the weekend; pigeons eating ham. I thought they were seed eaters. If they are omnivores, why don't they eat the slugs in my garden?
Nick

You eat ham?
You eat slugs?

yes that really is a tomato outside in york peeping from behind the pipe in january, the randoms are ace at rot proof although vile to eat. Laughing
Mistress Rose

I don't eat ham that has been knocking around on the ground in a shopping centre Nick, and some people do eat slugs if they are follow some up market chefs.

Nice picture of the wren Dpack. Haven't seen or heard any recently, but did hear a thrush and a woodpecker in the woods yesterday.

the little beasty was looking a bit chilled as it tried to work out where to go. anyway a quick warm in a hand and it was tucked into an improvised toad hall in the yard with a nice slug dinner . Cool

Good use for slugs. I thought toads hibernated during the winter.

They do, generally, but like most other hibernating creatures, they can get disturbed by a variety of things, and have to move around to find a better place.

as mentioned they do but a warm day, such as we had, can wake them up ( along with their lunch) and if it drops chilly before they are back in toad hall or a nice hotel they can be in trouble.

this little beast was very much running cold and moving in slowmo.
buzzy

Yes - a warm day was mentally included in 'a variety of things'. Smile
