Welbar Cockerel and Welbar hensI have a breeding group of 4 Welbar hens and a cockerel looking for a new home. I am in Bedfordshire, but travel to Warwickshire weekdays so can take to there too.
Females were hatched late in 2011 and have laid very well (nice coloured and sized eggs). Cockerel was also 2011 hatched from another unrelated source.
Just would like to find a nice home for them, and need to cut down on bird numbers.
Please PM if interested or for more details.

How clear is the auto-sexing at day old, Marshdaisy, and what is the egg colour like? I *cannot* have another breed, but they are so rare, it's interesting to hear about anyone keeping them.
I find that with the barnebars I can tell at a few days old; they are not nearly so clear as legbars; and the egg colour is not nearly so dark as the barnevelders.

Hi Chez,
It is very good - can tell males from females apart as soon as they are dry and fluffed up, and they look very similar to Cream Legbars as chicks). No sexing issues in 5 years of keeping the breed. I am still going to keep Welbars, but just the one pen.
The eggs are a nice dark, rich, terracotta-brown. They are a good size (all over 65g) and Welbars have laid well (most of these have done over 200 eggs this year).

I'm probably doing a better job concentrating on getting the barnebars right; but I am *sorely* tempted.
