Outside:

Parsnips, onion sets, early spuds, broad beans and mangetout. Except for the mangetout the French think I am barmy to start this early

In the PT - loads. I'm hoping despite the fact it's quite cold the sun will warm things up nicely in there. I still think I'll need to bring the tomatoes and peppers inside to germinate though.

Absolutely nothing so far! I'm another one who has learned from experience that starting things indoors too early results in weedy plants that don't do so well as those sown a little later. Will probably start tomatoes next week ...

Lots of chillis in the heated propogator - with pretty poor germination rates so far.

Romanesco Globe artichokes

A couple of rows of root parsley and carrots.

And my potatoes (swift and int-l kidney) are chitting away happily with some OCA. (She finds the word chitting very amusing for some reason )

They sound like they would make an interesting addition to a stir fry.

Wow, thanks for the info. Sounds like the exploding cucumbers are sort of 'self preparing' then.
I might have to try some of these, should discourage the chickens from eating them!

woohoo! all my chilli varieties are now germinated, even the Bhut Jolokia ones. the packet said that germination was erratic and needed temperatures of 28-35C... my ancient but trusty propagator struggles to get to 20C by itself, tho the air temp inside was up at 40 when the sun was on it on saturday morning!

Have since sown white sprouting broccoli ( in trays, no heat) sunflowers, sweet peas, nasturtium.
this weeks sowings: beetroot, carrot, more spring onions, lettuces - reine des glaces and Red devil's tongue
and peas: I have Serpette Guilotteau - a second early, Telephone -a maincrop and another seed swap surprise labelled 'blue flower pea ex lancashire lad'
trying to be disciplined and not starting the beans until end of March early April -I always end up running out of space inside with a backlog of stuff that needs planting out before its safe!

Have finally got started on the sowing. Just a few salady things in the greenhouse and a couple of pots of broad beans, but I was starting to feel that I would never get going.

Finally sowed tomatoes (Latah and Gardener's Delight) plus chillies (Hungarian Hot Wax and Cayenne) at the weekend. Have got a day off work on Wednesday so am planning to do some serious sowing then in trays in the greenhouse.
