You clearly have to be very careful what you wish for on DS.

To cut a long story short, after an exchange of texts this morning, I thought I was giving Katieowl a lift to town and to the supermarket earlier today. She turned up on my doorstep and told me that I had to "sign for a parcel out on the road". Rather puzzled, I followed her out to the lane - and standing there was Cathryn, Ruby (plus friend) and Katieowl's daughter Pippa, all looking immensely pleased with themselves

Even more puzzling was the box that Cathryn handed to me...which contained something moving...and squeaking

I opened it up and there were three gorgeous little ducklings (Indian Runners apparently) all for me! I am so chuffed to little mint balls

So thank you very much Cathryn, Chez, Jamanda and Judith for this amazing gift, the plan for which (I gather) was hatched during a drunken (now there's a surprise) get-together
And thanks also to Katieowl, who described herself as 'the duck facilitator'. (I think Pippa took some snaps with her phone). They're now safely penned in the empty enclosure (the ducklings, not katieowl, Cathryn, Chez, Jamanda and Judith) but I have to find out how to look after them...

HELP ME!

What food? They're so young. Can I give them poultry food?

yay! That's so exciting (and very much deserved if I may say so!).

Pictures are demanded, once you have recovered from the shock of course

I give mine poultry crumb when they are just hatched and then the pellets you get for slightly older chooks as they get older and they seem to do fine on it. You can get proper duck food over here - and in the UK no doubt. Once they are all grown up I gave them wheat and cracked maize.

Why not if it's medicated, Sandra?

you can buy all purpose ummed poultry crumb - ducks eat too much and then poison themselves if they have food laced with anti-coccidiosis

you should give them fresh water daily ideally - and enough so they can stick their bills up to their nostrils in as a minimum.
