Hello, I found your web site and was wondering if anyone would know the answer to this question. If I replace a gas boiler, how would I calculate the estimated cubic meters of gas reduction. Any help would be appreciated

Welcome on board, dougal's your man on that sort of stuff, but the first thing to do is to make sure that your house is as well insulated as possible

This isn't a boiler for a house. It is a commercial building

Same applies, insulation is very important

You don't find me...

Saving, can't answer without some indication of from what to what?
Are you intending changing anything other than the boiler?
And I know little of commercial/industrial heating systems.
But they typically have rather better control systems than domestic ones

But its generally reckoned that a modern condensing boiler, running so that it is condensing, could use 1/3 less gas than a 1970's specimen.
Even running without any changes to make it condense more of the time, the gas saving might be around 20%.
You want a lower return temperature to ensure condensing.
This is often done by increasing radiator size. (or adding extra rads)
Even when not condensing, a condensing boiler will extract more heat from its exhaust than a non condenser - more heat from each cu ft of gas, less gas consumed...

If you were looking for something more quantitative, I'd suggest that the gas usage might be (inversely) proportional to their SEDBUK efficiencies.
I'd expect a SEDBUK 96% boiler, compared to an old 80% one, to use something like 80/96 of the gas...
SEDBUK figures are (presumably equivalently) slightly unrealistic laboratory "benchmark" figures.
It illustrates the fact that you need to know equivalent figures for the old and new to make any sort of proper comparison.
And you'll have difficulty finding such figures for a condenser not running in condensing mode...
However, the mere fact that the exhaust is *much* cooler should reassure you that more useful heat is being extracted.

Commercial/industrial properties often have much worse insulation than residential properties - and thus there's even more scope for improvement !

Welcome to the site Marion.
I hope you'll be back and join in...

And I apologise for referring to SEDBUK (UK) standards. But I've no idea about Canadian equivalents, Canadian "building codes", etc...

Now, where's our other Canadian?
