I've made a skull out of mashed potatoes, with severed fingers made out of chipolatas with almond finger nails and ketchup.

There are loads of novelty biscuit cutters in bat shapes and such around, you can do a whole load of different types.

It's quite simple to draw iced spiders web onto the top of fairy cakes. Red slushy iced drinks also work well if you drop eyeball jelly sweets on the top. Jelly snacks, rats and bug shapes are useful for adding around the table too.

My friend make really good mummy things out of pastry a few years back. I think they were cheese straw type things in people shapes.

You *so* need to get out more often. Or take up a post in the Warner prosthetics department.

If you used royal icing and covered marshmallows they'd be squidgy inside when bitten into

It was the year I was hosting the pre trick or treating meal

Thankfully we've all grown out of that now, and he is going to dress up as a zombie and hide in the bushes to scare passing littlies this year.

There are lots variations on these around and I long to have a go at them:

I suspect a cheese shortie recipe would work very well, too. It's the almond fingernails and a bit of wrinkling around the knuckles that seem to be the key.

And it might even have been here that I saw this first:

I'm sure it would be simple enough to do without a mould, again I think it's the nails that make it, and the bubbly skin.

Finally, don't forget pumpkin soup or stew served in the hollowed out pumpkin.

I need pumpkin recipes! Sean's Mum has brought an enormous pumpkin grown on her friend's allotment.

I need inspiration both culinary and artistically.
