I have two lovely saris. I was given one and bought one. Both with the idea of using them to make sundresses. The issue is that I am finding them both far too nice to cut up.
So, do you think it is normal to wear them as is for parties and so on or would it be a bit odd?

go for it. I'm making the overdress part of my wedding dress out of a green and gold silk sari, know what you mean about being loathe to cut them up.

will you feel comfortable wearing them? cause that is what really matters.

If you can wear a sari, without it falling down etc, why go to the fuss of making it into a western dress?
If you can't, well, at the end of the day it's just fabric with fancy borders, some of which are useable some are in the way.
Be brave!

I can indeed wear one without falling down. It is all in the folding and tucking
Would you all find it odd to see a western woman wearing a sari of an evening? ~I really do love them and have the confidence to wear them out but would rapidly loose the confidence if everyone was staring...

Like you I bought one with the idea of making a bed throw for the visitors' room - and could not bear to cut it up

I have Indian friends who taught me (with a great deal of giggles and laughter) to wear it well

I have worn it on a number of occasions at various evenings out - I love it makes me feel very elegant and female

I've never felt 'out of place' and have had many compliments both on the sari and my ability to wear it without it falling off!! (if they only knew the practice I put in )

For the record I'm 69 and 5'2"

My cousin often wears one - she married an Asian chap and wore them to traditional things on his side of the family to help with relations with his parents. Now she wears them to all kinds of things. It doesn't look odd, and they are so pretty. I think she gets asked how to make them stay up a lot though.
