You'll never do that, it's like telling them to not pick at a scab...

I've surprised myself in sticking with my own little Tesco boycott.

For direct electricals I've used co-op and they would be my first stop next time, they were reasonable and good to deal with. For some reason they don't always seem to crop up when you do a search.

Tesco direct seem to have had some problems recently. They were very good, possibly too helpful a few years ago. But recently they were impossible to deal with so I'll not use them again.

One thing, email them and keep chasing as you are likely to get something out of them. I'd write a simple email and ask for something like £40 in vouchers for the inconvenience, chase every few days if you can be bothered.

Another vote for the co-op for white goods here. Apart from anything else they're actually capable of finding our house rather than claiming that they tried to deliver but we were out.

The Coop were a delight to deal with. To be fair to the Tescos chappie he was very apologetic, and of course it's not his fault. But that didn't stop me having a moan at him.

Just to be different, can I recommend Marks and Spencer's home delivery for electricals?
I got my washer and dishwasher from them last year and the service was superb, daily updates and a phone call when they left the warehouse - and a call to apologise when they got stuck behind an RTC a mile from us, and they took away the old units for free (driver's perk I hope).
Oh, and when I lost the receipt they e-mailed a copy within the hour and a hard copy arrived next day.

We use a little local shop. Very helpful and delivery slots to the hour can be arranged, even to time in with my shifts! Other than that John Lewis because we ARE middle class!

They are also recycling the old machine (£10).

Are they giving you £10, or you they?
Last time I delivered a washing machine, there was someone banging on the door for the old one before I'd even finished the plumbing.

That has to be one of the most singularly infuriating things. Many times I've seen the couriers pull up outside the main gates, which one is left open and I walk down to meet them, to save their legs and the good-for-nothings drive off and when i call and ask why they say either the driver couldn't find us or they knocked on the door and we were out.

The latter, technically, could be construed to be true but the daft article would have had to walk right past me

You have to use Tesco's here if you want petrol after 10pm it's the only station open, however, the petrol part is owned by esso and the shop you pay in is owned by tesco.

Be thankful for small mercies Nell, just think what the after service would be like :S

Besides you could have had a 'surprise' pack of concrete blocks delivered and left outside the main gates, where you could clearly see through cars parked and realise access was needed, but abandon the pack of 72, in front of the gate meaning the gate couldn't be opened and no one could get in or out.

When questioned the builders merchants said the driver wasn't sure he had the right address so had just left them where he thought they were wanted

Apparently asking if they employed drivers who needed an appropriate adult with them at all times was a bit harsh
