I found some of these, but many still didn't turn up in my search -

As for switching to lace, I guess, I gotta start somewhere

Just a thought, don't do them in blue - not a good look...

If you use one of the plain ones you could work it plain til around the knee then just pick any lace pattern you like that will fit the stitch count for the visible section. Should give you a better fit than trying to do the whole thing in lace. You can get sock yarns with a bit of stretch in them these days which might be a good choice to avoid saggy bum and knee syndrome

ooh, I like the cable ones! Although they definitely look cosy for the winter rather than something for under dresses in the summer.

Another possibility, what about buying/adapting cotton knee length leggings and adding a crochet border to them?

I am trying not to buy clothes, choosing to make as I have oodles of yarn and fabric and stuff.
