I've found an old - approx 30yrs - bag in a shed, it's in fairly good condition if a bit dry & stiff. It has metal rings & a buckle, so I can't shove it in the washer.

Any tips for restoring it to its former glory?

got a picture? Depending what its made of you may be able to get it in the bath for a scrub, and hany it out to dry, but I'd want to check what its made from first- some bags of that date have cardboard in the linings and obviously that wouldnt hold up well to immersion.

I would undo the stitching holding the buckle and rings and take them out, then put it in the machine, you could clean up the metalwork separately then put it back together again.
