I'm finding sprang is quite fun, although I doubt that it will lead to anything remunerative. From a creative/fun point of view, bobbin lace is ok too, but is more outlay, and very unlikely to recover it, let alone cover labour. eta meant to say, bobbin lace is quite well known whereas hardly anyone seems to have even heard of sprang, even at my local WSD!

Thread hijack away - I love a good dress tutorial. Tatting and ungent making....l hmmmm I do have tatting shuttles already as I have tried it before, might crack them out again while I ponder upon salves

I have also had a go at sprang, but again, not for years. Not many people have heard of it, let alone have a go. Anyone do lucette btw?

re shortening the skirt from the top, it would be a lot easier to take out a section from the middle, that way you wouldn't have to alter any waistband and zip.....but a photo of said skirt may help?

Hi, Mistress Rose - I use a lucet. I started off using it for medieval re-enactment, but at the moment I'm making my second rug by lucetting a loose cord, then plaiting three cords together, and then weaving them on a peg loom. It's a long process, but it does produce a nicely chunky, soft rug. The first one I made like this is beside my bed now.

That's dedication. I have done a bit of lucette, but my main thing for re-enactment was spinning and weaving with a bit of talk about beekeeping and coppicing thrown in.
