I used to get on fine with the Gimp, but of late, it has been misbehaving too much.
So what else is any good?

Download photoshop CS2, register it log in and it will give you a product code.

I suppose it depends on how advanced you want it to be, and what operating system you have, but paint.net might be worth a look.

I use both OS, so something which runs on both would be preferrable, but not essential.

Right at the moment I'm just wanting to do a basic sketch. Gimp may be complete overkill for that, but it is still capable of just being a virtual pen & paper... Or at least it used to be.
