random vulture

a few of those would cut the fallen stock costs to a few bones in a bag

it is odd that some folk seem to think the species of an area do not, and sometimes should not, alter.
15000 yrs ago we had a few polar bears around the coastal ice, 450000 yrs ago we had rhinos, a bit before that we had all those wierd cambrian critters.

moving to or evolving into a new niche or location that can support them is what life does

ps i was a bit wary of two buzzards who mistook a snooze in the morning sun for breakfast, but im cool if we have vultures to visit or stay
undertakers, not moiderers

it might make the neighbours a bit nervous if i strapped a dead sheep to the roof

We went for a walk in a woodland we hadn't really visited for about 50 years yesterday, although it isn't very far from home. Interesting, as I didn't realise it had a wood bank round it. Hard to see what it was originally as it is or has been mainly plantation, but saw a few interesting things. There was a roe deer crossing the track ahead of us, although I know there are also fallow in the area. Found some, I believe, wild lilly of the valley, a good number of common spotted orchids and some ragged robin among other things. Nothing I couldn't really identify or that I know to be rare. Saw a yellow butterfly that we are sure was a brimstone even though they are not supposed to be out now. The wing shape was right, and it had no black or dark colouration on the upper wing. It was feeding from the ragged robin, which is not a favoured food plant of the clouded yellow which is supposed to be flying at the moment.

no

birdtown news , the bracks do have 2 fledglings this time, about 5 days apart and both looking good

that the kids look well fed etc might explain how ragged mr and mrs brack are at the mo, the snap last year sort of got that for one child but this time both of them have been shopping and doing childcare big style

the sparrows are starting to fledge, quite a few less than last year so far, but the invertebrates are now all out together so the next batch may do well

They can be excellent at clearing all sorts of aphids. They sorted out the blackfly on my runner beans one year.
