Yes Rob R's sheep have been keeping me warm I never quite got around to knitting socks but I did manage a scarf from the wool I bought off him and I thought that I should post a piccy up of my minor knitting achievement

That looks lovely Ele, is it a pattern or did you invent it?

I didn't notice til I started using it all the little black flecks, and it is a lot softer once you wash it too.

I've got a swatch staring accusingly at me which I must get on with...

I kinda like the tube effect but according to my mum in law you need to do an edge of plain knitting.

an invention yes I noticed the black flecks too, it's a really cool feeling to know where the wool came from whilst you're knitting it, isn't it?

By that, do you mean ending every row with a knit, regardless of whether it is a knit or purl row, or starting and ending the scarf with a knit row?

yep I think that's what she meant, three or four stitches always knit at each edge, I've not tried it though

Yep, it's great, bizarre though - perhaps Rob should add the names of his flock to the labels?

I'm not even going to hazard a guess at how you managed to make the pattern so I'll just ask - what did you do?

Regarding the tubular effect I think that Mrs Tahir had the same problem with her first scarves, maybe she's sorted that now, I think she got the same advice as Ele's mum gives.

If she's anything like me (and I hope for her sake that she's not) then it's a normal knit, purl, knit with the occasional reversal (...K,P,K,P,K,K,P,K,K,P,K,P,K...)

I think we could safely say you are unique.

Or at least we're only safe if you are unique.

I thunk it would be something like that, I always thought that would make a pretty effect in a scarf, and wondered...I wonder no more, it is very effective.

If I have enough wool left from Rob's scarf I was planning a hat and mittens set, I have yet to try a scarf as I have several lurking at home. Scarves don't really wear out, do they?

True, they are usually tucked into a coat, but sometimes it's fun to jautily sling it over your shoulder.
