I think it's a bit like anti-virus software: I can spell, and I use a spell-checker if available. I don't go to dodgy places on the net (scat's excepted, and I only went there once), but I have a firewall and up-to-date AV software. The people who need it won't use it.

I've never used one but I know a couple of new users (Jonsey and Smallholder) have raised the fact that we haven't got one.

Spillchuckers are handy as an optional extra - though I wouldn't want to have one that kicks in on evry attempt to post.

Doesn't appear hard as such, in fact the instructions are easier that I had anticpated, but hiting spell check will create popup window advertising another web site, which is rather messy compared to the professional looking spell checkers on forums like VBulletin.

I don't mind informal spelling & typos in ordinary forum postings.
Part of the charm & immediacy.
If folk are worried about their own posts, surely they can, at the most difficult, cut and paste into their wp program, spellcheck, and paste back?
-----------------------------------------------
An internet gleaning, to illustrate that mere spellcheck is not always enough -

Eye halve a spelling chequer
It came withe my pea sea
It plane lea marques four my revue
Miss steaks eye kin knot sea.
Eye strike a key and type a wort
And weight four it two say
Weather eye am wrong oar write
It shows me strait a weigh.
As soon as a mist ache is maid
It nose bee fore two long
And eye can put the error rite
Its rare lea ever wrong.
Eye halve run this poem threw it
I am shore your pleased two no
Its letter perfect awl the weigh
My chequer tolled me sew.

You saying my forum is sloppy

Mine does go off site, to spelling cow you can get rid of the ads on it at a small price, I have not done this yet but it is something I am considering.

I looked at a couple including yours and it is all a matter of balance, the need v the look.

I am more used to VBulletin where you pay for it in the first place, so it works very much better than these phpbb add ons.

Is there not a plug-in people can get for their browser? If this site gets a spell checker I'll always refer to Tahir as Tapir.

You can get browser plugins, but a non techy audience like ours will not really be likely to do that.
