I would like to take some laurel cuttings to grow on, and hopefully plant out next summer (it wouldn't be earlier than this). Can anyone point me in the right direction of how exactly to do this, what else I might need (i.e. growth compound) and when in the year I should be doing this?

Many thanks.

Best time is Sept but you can still do them.
4" basal cuttings (This years growth) treat with rooting powder & put in trays or pots filled 50/50 peat or coir & grit.
Put in cold frame or cover with thin plastic bag & put under the staging in the green house.
Pot up in spring & grow on for planting out next autumn.

They should be really easy, laurel usually grows from cuttings just put into water in my experience.
