Can I suggest a couple of threads:

The 2nd includes a couple more links

To answer your question about the paper... shredded paper works fine, so long as it isn't shiny (which means sadly that most of the junk leaflets that come through the door are no good).

Well, they're settling in okay I think. Arrived Wednesday. The instructions said to feed them the bran feed supplied with the worms for a couple of weeks, then get them on to scraps a couple of handfulls at a time.

The block of coir that came with them swelled fill the bucket it was in, they're in amongst that with a handfull of soil (again, according to the instructions) and thats got torn up, damp newspaper on top and then the lid.

I must say, they were pretty acive, they went right into the coir, didn't hang around at all. Pretty little things.

They are only 5 miles from me I might go and take a look.

Alison have you ever thought about doing it on a larger scale, like the Ads in CSH?
We are thinking of doing it when we move.

I have thought of it, but I think the marketing opportunities aren't quite there for us. My friend, not too far away has some big brick built wormeries and there are various problems that they haven't really overcome.

They seem happy enough, I mean they're alive and they seem to be slowly chomping what I give them... What foods do they REALLY like?

Isn't this missing the point? They are suposed to eat stuff you want them to not the other way around

Mine have never really graduated past 'seem happy enough' They don't like onions, and will ignore them unless there is nothing else to eat. I think I decimated my worms by daft mistakes at the beginning, and they've never quite recovered.

They still give me enough worm tea through the summer to feed all my pots, and enough worm casts to top dress them, so I'm happy with them. Can't honestly say they've revolutionised my gardening, though. I have higher hopes for them overwintering in the garage.

Kind of, but I rekon spoiling them to bulk out the numbers once in a while can't be a bad thing.
