Scything Workshops Saturday 21st July (10am – 4.00pm)
Learn how to scythe; workshops for beginners and skilled people, an introduction to the using and care of a scythe, and the restoration of upland meadow systems. Led by Simon Fairlie,
Walter Lloyd and other experts
Lancashire Scything Competition Sunday 22nd July (12 noon 5pm)
The First Lancashire Scything Competition; public displays of different scythe types and scything techniques, the scythe clinic – restoration of old scythes and re-tempering blades. Demonstrations of related rural field craft traditions; hay rope making, rake making, and how to chase country maidens, etc.
