I noticed on cracking an egg yesterday that there were a couple of lumps of I suppose calcium inside the white - the egg is from a chicken who lays unreliable shells and the lumps look similar to the calcium deposits we often find on the outside of her eggs.

There were just two such lumps and the egg was fine otherwise (it's either part of an omelette or cakes now...and we're still here having eaten both!)

Do other keepers know much about this? She's getting on a bit as well.

Are they Colombian hens?
If so, my guess is that they're smuggling cocaine out of the coop!

No, Sussexes...but I always wondered what they got up while we're out - it's only a short hop and squawk to Dover, after all, and they probably make a packet from these rich home counties types.

Well, that's that solved then
