Does anyone else agree that with the ever changing climate it is time to reform the game seasons?
Last year in October we were shooting in shirtsleeves with the trees in full leaf. It does not seem right somehow now. When the season ends it usually heralds the coldest time of the year and a crucial time for many birds that have become reliant on the food put down to feed pheasants and partridges. Whilst several shoots continue to feed after the season, many do not.
Would anyone else like to see the season moved a month on. Partridges come in in October instead of September and pheasants in November instead of October. The season then to finish on March the First, Not february.

Does it not also depend on when the birds are mating/ raising their broods ? If they are still doing all that at the same time, then feeding should be exntended in spring, or farmers with rough shoots/pheasanr rearing on their land should sow an area of unharvested crop to compensate - perhaps some kind of brassica that shoots and flowers again in spring (like kale or purple sprouting brocc).

Round here, it doesn't seem to matter how long the season/when - most birds have been shot by the end of the season (Dec/Jan)

Most shoots I know don`t shoot partridge until Oct & Pheasant until Nov anyway.

Don`t think it should be extended the other end either as they tend to start making their mating territories in mid february and the mating is well on at the moment as I have seen ducks treading and have just shot my first tennis ball sized bunny today.
