She is liable to be a slightly strangled ex-daughter, as I spend 20 minutes earlier this evening failing to solve the puzzle set as her maths homework

She has just told me she wrote one of the numbers down wrong

Been there a few times, also appreciate my other daughter(10) coming home with spellings copied so badly that on some occasions it is impossible to work out what they are supposed to be

I was kind of a star maths student, on the 'A' level course, I was not even expected to bother with what the rest of the class did (which was handy as it also meant no homework). So when the kids approach me with maths homework, I expect to be able to figure it out.... but only if the numbers are right in the first place

A truly 'star' student would have handed back the completed problem with the mistake in the question corrected.

My school maths lessons consisted of being sent out to count the railings around the play ground.

In my defense, there were quite alot of numbers, and no one in my class got it right, the 'star student' wasn't much use

It wouldn't make much odds anyway! And in my book the 9 looked like a 4
