Now that Christmas is over we're turning our minds to the Downsizer Foodie Weekend in April 2009 (main information link here)

A lot of people have shown interest in attending and a number have already offered their services and skills for demonstrations and workshops. If you think you have a particular skill to offer then please let us know. Or if you think of anything you'd like to see happening there, then let us know about that too and we'll do our best to oblige.

Here's what has been offered so far for demos/workshops:

Dpack
Preparing food on the move
Tasty terrestial invertebrates
Dinner in ten minutes at low tide

Mary-Jane
Fly fishing/casting
Rich, but light Christmas puds

Erikht
Traditional Scandinavian mutton charcuterie

Wildfoodie
Wild food cookery skills

Brownbear & Gervase
Shooting for the pot

Shadiya
Nigerian cooking

Helen M
Medieval, tudor and 17th century cooking

Jamanda
Basic Wine tasting

Minamoo
Swahili/Kenyan food

Jocorless
Vegetarian recipes

Gareth (OH of sally_in_wales)
Cooking bread on an open fire (Indian inspired with a western twist)

Gil
Wine-making
Making preserves [to enter in shows]

Tahir
Indian snacks and pilau

Azura Skye
Raw vegan food

Jonnyboy
Fish and shellfish
Offal for the nervous

Jonnyboy and Sean
Risottos

Cathryn
Cooking with the kids

And here are a few suggestions that have been made for what people would like to see/do/try:

Meat processing-type things
Medieval food
Wine making
Fly fishing
Basketry
Foraging for food
Preserving meat/ fish in a smoking or other styles
Sea-shore foraging
Catching/trapping for the pot
Roast potato challenge
Prepping food without a kitchen
Cooking outdoors, pig roast, barbecue, wood-oven, poiki
How to successfully poach an egg
Sausage prepping and linking

Of course, we'd be very grateful for any general help you could offer for an hour or so as well, such as stints at washing up, assisting the workshops demonstrators, fetching and carrying etc.

We should also add that no-one is under any sort of pressure to contribute skills to this weekend - you can of course just come along and enjoy yourselves!

Please feel free to add your suggestions and contributions here, which I will add to the list, then delete your post so we can keep this thread short, sweet and easy to follow.

Put me down for a washing up stint, and I'll happily be part of a clear-up brigade the day(s) after, seen as we're there for the week following

My turn for washing up, too.

I would like to learn about netting rabbits, if BrownBear has the time?

I'll do a workshop on long-netting and drop traps and other types of pest control.

Madame Bear (assisted by self) on preparing the quarry for the table. I thought I'd bring whatever I'd bagged lately (hopefully a deer, some bunnies, maybe a pigeon or two) and she can run through the skinning and butchery process, maybe one or two of her recipes.

I think Sean and Mandy will be demonstrating use of my cold-smoker as well.

Gosh are we? OK then - as long as we get in in advance enough to have a good play.

Aren't you? I thought you said you wanted to take it to Mullacott. Oh well, it's up to you. Be ready by the start of Feb, then it's just a matter of getting it to you.

I shall be doing my best to get some decent food and food prep pics that we can use on the DS website. All other photographers invited to do like wise

Are there any videographers? I'd quite like to do a long-netting demo that could go online.

Is Pricey coming? Because he could do some Bunny Puppeteering, too

Not sure about "proper" video, but mobile gadgets like Fiddlesticks Tim's iphone can do web-friendly video snippets.
