two minds about that one. It is a useful thing to do, but does it add anything that we cannot already do just as easily with a link? depending on how it does it, it may also devalue us in SEO terms.

Presumably, it obviates the need for manually maintaining links between articles. Which sounds like an improvement.
I'd guess that the articles/forum split would present an obstacle to presenting related threads to an article and vice versa... but that would be a heck of thing to have automagically updating the links...

i'd have to read more, but it seems simple to replace the clear urls to article we already have with the article id. So if we change the name of an article it would help, but how often do we do that.

On the second if what ends up on the page as the link is say:

/index.php?urlredirect=2123

rathet than:

downzier.net/smoking_bacon

then we would lose out a bit.
