Do we want to do this again this year?

Last year I gathered 100 scarves, many from Downsizer peeps, and they were sent or delivered to a number of refuges across the country. I’d like to do this again, anyone want to join in?

Basic criteria - Scarves can be any pattern, any style, any length or colour - but please make sure they’re machine washable as the women receiving them won’t have the time or headspace for hand washing or delicate care.

If you do then you have plenty of time - these will be for Christmas presents so don’t need to be ready before the beginning of December. Just gathering interest for now.

I know I said I'd do it last time and didn't get round to it , but you know it's been a bit crap here. I will definetely do it this year though because I think it's a fabulous thing to support.

Which refuges do you have in mind Sarah? Have you checked with them? I have a friend who knits fantastic stripey jumpers for a charity. They were specifically requested by them.

I did this last year too (there'll be a thread on here somewhere I expect, if you look far enough back) and the refuges that took part last year are happy to be gifted again. The year before that it was only one refuge, managed by a friend of mine, but last year it expanded to cover 6 refuges in total and over 100 women. I've been sending gifts to the refuge my friend manages for a number of years and they're always well received.

Some of the new ones last year were chosen purely because someone joining in had a connection or was willing to co-ordinate a local delivery.

Excellent. I am hopelessly slow at knitting so will not volunteer. (I have a stripey jumper and a certain level of guilt at the time it took to knit one for me when it could have been knitted for someone who needed it. )

Ace! Thanks folks - crochet is fine. In fact anything is fine. It's just a nice thing to give someone in a refuge a gift for Christmas. Last year me and a mate decided scarves because they're practical, easy to rustle up, and it's like giving a hug.

I'm up for this too, good thing to have on the go when the other thing you're knitting is being complicated and you need a break

Yep - whatever you like - I'm only saying scarves because they're practical and it means that every parcel has pretty much the same thing in, everyone gets a scarf.

Whatever you feel like making a scarf out of Hippy! A bit of silk luxury would be lovely for a woman recovering from violent abuse.

I'm planning on a clearout of my yarn stash this week: I'd like it to go to a good home so if I post on here when I'm done would anyone be interested in yarn for this project?
