I went out to pick elderberries and blackberries this afternoon and noticed loads of these berries growing on a tree. Does anyone know what they are and if they are edible.

First glance to me (the leaves and the arrangement of berries) they look like a guelder rose and I rather think they aren't edible
But I'm at the bottom of the ladder in this game so wait and see what others say first!
(Edited to say that if that is what it is, it's quite a useful plant other than eating...

I might try making some jelly or even a cordial with them but don't think I'll try tasting them raw

At best, they make a passable jelly. I've rather changed my opinion on them in recent years, I'm not especially a fan.
